Over the last 50 years, Ben Machine has been very fortunate. We have grown steadily and developed invaluable relationships with our customers and our suppliers. Our family has grown from two people to well over 200 professionals. From the office and maintenance staff to the managers, engineers, and CNC machinists, we know we have the best people in the industry. We recognize how fortunate we have been. It’s with that spirit of gratitude that Ben Machine tries to return the support our community has provided to us.
Fostering STEM Education
We are part of the community, so when we support that community, we end up benefitting as well. We have supported various STEM programs and robotics teams in area schools. Alpha Dogs -a robotics program at Humber View Secondary School in Bolton- is in its tenth year of representing the area in robotics competitions. They’ve made it to three FRC World Championships (during a decade that included two years of COVID cancellations) and received numerous awards. And what robotics team doesn’t involve CNC machined components, sheet metal fabrication and some element of assembly? We’re proud to see those young engineers gaining invaluable experience and happy to help them discover the interesting world of manufacturing that makes it all possible.
Investing Our Time in Healthcare
We are proud to sponsor and support Humber River and Mackenzie Health, two local hospital systems that treat and look after the health of our employees and their families. There could hardly be a more convincing demonstration of the need for precision CNC machining and engineering work than pointing out that robotic surgery is one of the centerpieces of Humber River Hospital. Their foundation is currently raising funds to upgrade their DaVinci surgical robot and add a second ROSA robot, which specifically handles knee replacement surgeries. Staying at the forefront of technology is vital to quality healthcare.
Supporting the Pandemic Effort
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ben Machine was asked by Trillium Health Partners to come up with a solution to provide reusable face shields for their front-line workers. By that afternoon, in partnership with L3Harris Wescam, a simple design was created for a reusable face shield to replace the disposable ones currently in use. In less than 4 days, we were able to retool our sheet metal and machining departments to produce 500 reusable face shields. A total of 1,000 units were donated to Trillium Health Partners within 1 week of the request and Ben Machine went on to supply 150,000 to healthcare providers in the Province of Manitoba. We were truly grateful for the partnership with L3Harris Wescam and all our employees that came together to make it possible.
Speaking Up for Aerospace and the Nation’s Defence
Of course, we are in the business of CNC machining, so we work to be a leading voice in the industry as well. We’re active on the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, as well as the Ontario Aerospace Council. CADSI provides a national voice for the nation’s defence, security, and cyber companies, while the OAC is the provincial voice of aerospace in the Province of Ontario. Both associations promote policies intended to keep the nation safe and secure while fostering the economic strengths that come from a strong defence and aerospace industry.
The foregoing examples are just some of the local non-profits we support. As we enter our second half-century, we intend to keep promoting this support as it has helped build us. The business of CNC machining complex parts drives us to be the best, and recognizing the importance of our community is part of that.
